The Formula 1 of Monaco is a street race held in the streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine around the harbour of the principal in Monaco. Grand Prix Monaco is commonly called “Grand Prix Monte Carlo” because the biggest part of the circuit lies in the Monte Carlo neighbourhood of Monaco.

Grand Prix Monaco is considered the ultimate test for Formula 1 drivers. The narrow course, tight corners and many elevation shifts makes the race track one of the most demanding tracks on the Formula 1 calendar, even though the course has been changed many times during its history. The course contains both the slowest corner in Formula One (the Grand Hotel hairpin, taken at just 50 km/h (31 mph)) and one of the fastest (the stretched out curve in the tunnel, taken at 260 km/h (160 mph)) which perhaps sums up its difficulty.

On the course of Monaco its very important to have a good starting position, because it’s very difficult to surpass opponents. Mostly the race is decided by the gird positions and pit strategies. Further more it’s the smallest course with a total length of 3.34 km (2.075 mi).

Sightseeing during the Formula 1 Monaco

Monaco is a small city born next to a beautiful harbor looking at the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a mountain full city with beautiful high location which makes the sights even better. Just walking around Monaco is really lovely with great temperatures and the nice breeze of the sea. It’s relatively easy to find your way in Monte Carlo/Monaco. At one the excursion desk you can find city maps that will highlight the tunnels, elevators, and escalators that facilitate touring the city.

When you are in Monaco on the west-side of the harbor there is an elevator that will take you up to Monaco-Ville and deposit you near the Musee Oceanographie (Oceanographic Museum). This is a must see, with a wonderful aquarium with both tropical and Mediterranean species of marine life. Walking on the Avenue Saint-Martin you will walk alongside some beautiful cliff-side gardens and come to the Monaco Cathedral. This cathedral was built in the late 19th century, and was where Princess Grace and Prince Ranier married.
