The Brazilian Grand Prix is held on Circuit Interlagos, officially named Autódromo José Carlos Pace after Carlos Pace the Brazilian driver who died prior to its naming. Interlagos is the name of the town where the circuit lies, in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The circuit exists since 1973 and has been reconstructed several times since it inauguration.
Originally the circuit had a length of 7.8 km and was shortened in 1990 to 4.4 km so that it could fit the new FIA restrictions on track length. This resulted that the track lost 3 long straights and 3 fast curves. The original track allowed cars to keep maximum speed u to 20 seconds and was considered very dangerous, although no driver ever died during a Formula 1 race at Circuit Interlagos..
Drivers still like the course because of very long top-speed section that contains bumps. Also the high-speed turns and small run-off area are loved, although the track is very wide at these points. The hilly course demand a lot from the engines and it makes it harder on the drivers as well.
